Cancer Care
Why the need of Cancer Unit?
Cancer is a ruthless disease. It evolves constantly and spreads relentlessly. It’s hard to catch and even harder to treat. In 2015, about 90.5 million people had cancer. About 14.1 million new cases occur every year, it caused about 8.8 million deaths (15.7% of deaths).
The prevalence of cancer in India is estimated to be around 2.5 million, with about 8, 00,000 new cases and 5, 50,000 deaths per annum. In Pune & PCMC area for the year 2012-2013, total number of cases registered were 7103. The percentage of cases diagnosed microscopically were 85.9%, through death certification 4.0%, through clinical visits 9.7%.
Since there is a consistent rise in cases of Cancer due to various reason there is a need of more hospitals giving all services related to cancer under one roof.
We at Accord plan to establish a state of art advanced cancer care facility. This centre would have following facilities
Office and Clinic Based Ambulatory Care
Ambulatory procedures, such as clinical visits, physical examinations, Pap smears, blood samples, or endoscopies, can take place.
Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiology)
Imaging is a critical technology for diagnosis, to assess the effects of cancer treatment and complications, monitor for the recurrence of cancer, and screen the general population for cancerous conditions.
It also is used to guide interventional procedures such as biopsies under ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); securing of vascular access; and therapeutic interventions, such as embolization and high frequency ultrasound tumor ablation. Imaging for cancer ranges from conventional X-rays to ultrasound, CT, MRI, and molecular imaging (nuclear medicine) with position emission tomography, frequently combined with CT.( PET CT)
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Pathology, haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and, increasingly, cytogenetic and molecular testing, services that are specific to cancer.
Surgery
The use of comprehensive standard policies and procedures facilitates safe and efficient operations.
Radiation Therapy Unit
Systemic Cancer Therapy or Chemotherapy
In systemic cancer therapy or chemotherapy, drugs are distributed in the body through the bloodstream. These drugs include chemotherapy, administered intravenously or orally; hormones; and immune and molecular-targeted therapies. Systemic therapy is used alone or in combination with surgery and radiotherapy to reduce recurrence, improve survival
Palliative Care and Supportive Care
Palliative & Supportive care services address physical, emotional, and spiritual problems that may affect patient’s quality of life or ability to function. These services are provided before and during cancer treatment and are tailored to meet the needs of individual patients. Supportive care is similar to palliative care, which is often given to ease the suffering of patients with advanced cancer. Supportive care can begin as soon as a patient is diagnosed with cancer and palliative care begins when patient cancer does not respond to treatment or returns

Addition of a linear Accelerator- TrueBeam® Radiotherapy System
This will allow us to treat all kinds of cancers. The TrueBeam® radiotherapy system is an advanced medical linear accelerator—fully-integrated for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery. It helps treat targets with enhanced
speed and accuracy. TrueBeam treats cancer anywhere in the body where radiation treatment is indicated, including lung, breast, prostate and head and neck. Having the power to not only treat quickly, but also deliver highly precise dose rates are hallmarks of the TrueBeam system. The cost of this addition is rupees 15 crores.
